Cousin Fred was the keeper of the Firmin Bible and appropriately it has gone to his son – one of the last descendants of George and Emily (Hall) Firmin to carry the Firmin name. To the best of my knowledge there are only three living male descendants: Fred’s son and grandson, and a descendant of George Henry Berkeley Firmin’s son George Firmin (who lives on the East Coast of the United States). Many descendants of female Firmin children live in the UK, the US, and Australia. There are many other Firmins that live in the US and while it is possible they are distant cousins the connection goes back farther than I have traced my Firmin ancestry, to Firmin families that were part of the Great Migration and came to the shores of North American in the early 1600’s.
George and Emily apparently purchased the Bible in 1846 as there is a printed label “George and Emily Firmin | 1846.” It is interesting that they chose not to include any information about their own parents anywhere in the Bible. On later pages the descendants of John Robert Firmin continued to enter births, deaths, and marriages through the present. While all the information is available elsewhere the Bible is a real treasure, and I am happy knowing that it is cherished.
